Sony is offering a firmware update for Digital HD Video Camera Recorder Action Cam (HDR-AS15).

Applicable firmware version of the units
The applicable products are with the firmware version “Ver. 1.03 / Ver. 1.04 / Ver. 2.00”.

Contents of update

  • During smart remote control operation, you can switch to copy mode/remote control mode by operating a smartphone.
  • Menu items changed by this firmware update:
    • SEND is deleted. You can connect the camera through Wi-Fi only in shooting mode.
    • The default setting of A.OFF (Auto Power Off) is changed to 60sec from 10sec.
    • The default setting of RMOTE (Remote) is changed to ON from OFF.

Notes:

  • Update “PlayMemories Mobile” to the latest version (Ver. 3.00 or later), before you start the smart remote control function.
  • In use of applications other than "PlayMemoriesMobile", please carry out update of this machine after confirmation of the measures taken by the side of an application.

  • PS Recording Mode(1920x1080/60p)
    Available to shoot smooth image in fast moving scene using the high frame rate shooting
  • WATER scene selection

    Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.

    Note: The upgrade can be performed only when the remaining battery level is (three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery.

Details

IMPORTANT:

  • When performing the firmware upgrade, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-BX1 or NP-FG1.
  • Do not remove the battery or AC adaptor during the upgrade; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
  • Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
  1. Start Firmware Updater
    Download the file to your computer. Please save the downloaded file onto the Desktop of your computer (recommended).

    For Windows 8 users:
    Under the initial settings of Internet Explorer, the update file will be saved in the Downloads folder. Click the Desktop tile from the Start screen and find the downloaded file in the Downloads folder by using Explorer.
  2. Close all currently running programs on your computer.
    Double click Update_CAMAS15V300.exe to start up Firmware Updater.

     
  3. Connect the camera to the computer
    Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
    1. Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
      Note: When the camera is connected to the computer, "USB Mode” appears on the LCD monitor of the camera. Please proceed to the next step.

      If the computer cannot find the camera, the message “ Could not find the camera for this update.” appears on the computer display. Try the following if this happens.
      - Disconnect the USB cable and connect it again.
      - If the computer has multiple USB terminals, try with the other terminals. (Your computer may have some USB terminals on the backside.)
       
      Sometimes when the camera is connected to the computer with the USB cable, the message to encourage rebooting the computer may appear on the computer display. In this case, remove the battery pack from the camera, reboot the computer, and follow the procedures from “Start up Firmware Updater“.
    2. Confirm is displayed on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen.
    3. After confirming the ab ove, click Next on Firmware Updater.

      Note: From this step onwards, never turn off the camera until the firmware upgrade is completed.
  4. Check if the updating is required
    1. After confirming the screens on the above steps, click Next.
      The current version and the version after the upgrade appear on the lower left part of the screen.

      If the screen below appears, the upgrade is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, and then turn on the camera again.

    2. After confirming Current version is Ver. 1.03 / Ver. 1.04 / Ver. 2.00, click Next.
  5. Reset the camera
    1. Click on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen to stop the USB connection.

      Notes:
      - Please keep the USB cable connected even after stopping the USB connection on the computer with the above operation.

    2. Press the ENTER button to execute.

      Note: The screen turns off when the ENTER button is pressed. Please proceed to the next step.
    3. Click Next on Firmware Updater.
  6. Start the update
    1. After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the screen below appears.

    2. Click Run to start the upgrade. The progress bar appears while upgrading (approximately 10 minutes).

      Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while upgrading.
  7. Complete the update
    When the upgrade is completed, the screen below appears. Click Finish and disconnect the USB cable.


    Note: Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack, re-insert the battery pack and then turn on the camera again.
  8. Check the firmware version
    Follow the instruction to confirm the firmware version is Ver. 3.00.
    1. If the NEXT button is pushed, and “PLAY” is displayed on the next of “SETUP” as shown below, a firmware version will be Ver. 3.00.
    2. If the NEXT button is pushed, and “SEND” is displayed on the next of “SETUP” as shown below, a firmware version will be Ver.1.03 / Ver.1.04 / Ver. 2.00.
