    Preparation

    Check the system software version

    Follow the instructions below to check the system software version. If the system software version is Ver.1.01, the update is not required.

    Press the UP button or DOWN button to select [MENU] - [SETUP] - [Ver.], then press the REC/ENTER button.

    The latest version of the system software update is compatible with most commonly used versions of Microsoft Windows:
    • Windows® 10
    • Windows® 8.1
    • Windows® 7 SP1

    Computer hardware


    The latest version of the system software update is compatible with the following hardware:
    • Hard drive space: 500 MB or more
    • RAM: 512 MB or more
      Note: Please close all other application software before updating the system software.
    • Power source for the camera
      • Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-BX1.

        Note: The update can only be performed when the battery power level is(three bars) or more.We recommend that you use a fully charged battery.
    • USB cable supplied with the camera

      Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.

    Important Notice

    • Use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-BX1.
    • Do not remove the battery during the update; as the sudden loss of power may render the camera inoperable.
    • Remove the memory card from the camera before starting the update process.
    • Prevent your computer from entering Sleep mode.
    • Do not connect the camera to other any other devices except your computer.

    How to download the Updater:

    1. Make sure that you are logged on as a user with administrative rights.
    2. After reading the disclaimer, click Download.
    3. The file [Update_HDRAS50V101.exe] file will start downloading.
    4. Save the file to the desktop of your computer (recommended).

      5. Note for Windows 8.1/10 users:
      With the standard settings of Internet Explorer, the update file will be saved in your Downloads folder. Click the Desktop tile from the Start screen and find the downloaded file in the Downloads folder by using Explorer.

    Install

    Step 1: Start up the Updater

    1. Close all currently running programs on your computer.

    2. Double-click the [Update_HDRAS50V101.exe] file you downloaded. Do not connect the camera at this point.

    3. System Software Updater starts up.

    4. Turn on the camera.

    5. According to the instruction on the System Software Updater window, connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.

      Note:If the computer cannot find the camera, the message "Could not find the camera for this update." appears on the computer screen. Please try the following:
      • Disconnect the USB cable and connect it again.
      • If the computer has multiple USB terminals, try with the other terminals.

    6. Confirm  is displayed on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen.

    7. After confirming the above, click Next on System Software Updater.
      At the same time the message "Follow computer instructions" will appear on the LCD screen of the camera. - From this point don't turn off the camera until the system software update is completed.

    8. After confirming [Current version] is [Ver.1.00], click [Next].
      If [Current version] is [Ver.1.01], the update is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack, reinsert the battery and turn on the camera.

    9. Click Next. The following screen appears.

    10. After automatically resetting, the screen below appears.
      The progress bar appears while updating (approximately 15 minutes).

      Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while updating.

    11. Once the update is complete, the screen below will be shown. The camera will automatically reboot, which may take a few minutes. Please wait until the camera's LCD shows the same screen that appeared before starting the software update.
      When the screen appears, press the [Finish] button and disconnect the USB cable.

    Step 2: Confirm the system software version of your device is Ver.1.01.

    Press the UP button or DOWN button to select [MENU] - [SETUP] - [Ver.], then press the REC/ENTER button.
