Preparation
Check the system software version
Follow the instructions below to check the system software version. If the system software version is Ver.1.01, the update is not required.
Press the UP button or DOWN button to select [MENU] - [SETUP] - [Ver.], then press the REC/ENTER button.

The latest version of the system software update is compatible with the following Macintosh versions:
- Mac OS X v.10.10 – 10.11 / macOS 10.12 – 10.13*
*Important:
For macOS 10.13, please ensure the "DriverLoader_1013" has been installed before update your software.IMPORTANT:
For macmacOS 11 – 12, please ensure the "System Software Update Helper" has been installed before update your software.

The latest version of the system software update is compatible with the following hardware:
- Hard drive space: 600 MB or more
- RAM: 512 MB or more

Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-BX1.
Note: The update can only be performed when the battery power level is (three bars) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery. Detach the vertical grip before updating system software. - USB cable supplied with the device
Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.

Important Notice
- Use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-BX1.
- Do not remove the battery during the update; as the sudden loss of power may render the camera inoperable.
- Remove the memory card from the camera before starting the update process.
- Prevent your computer from entering Sleep mode.
- Do not connect the camera to other any other devices except your computer.
How to download the Updater:
- Make sure that you are logged on as a user with administrative rights.
- After reading the disclaimer, click Download.
- The file [Update_HDRAS50V101.dmg] file will start downloading.
- Save the file to the desktop of your computer (recommended).
Install
Step 1: Start up the Updater
- Close all currently running programs on your computer.
- Double-click the [Update_HDRAS50V101.dmg] file you downloaded. Do not connect the camera at this point.
- [Update_HDRAS50V101] is expanded.
- Double-click the icon.
- To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes. Type the password for the administrative account.
- System Software Updater starts up.
- Turn on the camera.
- According to the instruction on the System Software Updater window, connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
Note:If the computer cannot find the camera, the message "Could not find the camera for this update." appears on the computer screen. Please try the following:- Disconnect the USB cable and connect it again.
- If the computer has multiple USB terminals, try with the other terminals.
Sometimes when the camera is connected to the computer with the USB cable, the message to encourage rebooting the computer may appear on the computer display.
In this case, remove the battery pack or AC adaptor from the camera, reboot the computer, and follow the procedures from "2. Start up System Software Updater". - After confirming the LCD monitor of the camera, click Next. The current version and the version after the update appear on the lower left part of the screen.
Note: If the current system software version is 1.01 or later, the update is not required. In this case stop the USB connection and click Finish, turn off the camera, remove the battery pack and/or the AC adapter, reinsert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter and turn on the camera.
Update is required
Update is not required - After confirming Current version is "Ver. 1.00", click Next.
- The camera automatically resets.
The screen below appears.
Note: Loading icon may not be displayed depending on the OS version you are using. - Start the update
After automatically resetting, the following screen appears and the update starts. The progress bar appears while updating (approximately 15 minutes).
Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while updating. - Complete the update
Once the update is complete, the screen below will be shown. The camera will automatically reboot, which may take a few minutes. Please wait until the camera's LCD shows the same screen that appeared before starting the software update. When the screen appears, press the [Finish] button and disconnect the USB cable.
Step 2: Confirm the system software version of your device is Ver.1.01.
