About this download

Thank you for your continued interest in Sony products. Sony is offering a firmware update for Action Cam HDR-AZ1 version 1.01.

This update is only for HDR-AZ1 cameras that currently have a system software Version 1.00. If your camera system software version is already Version 1.01, this update is not necessary.

Contents of update

  • Fixed the symptom where, depending on the region where the camera is used, GPS logs (in movie recording) and/or location information (in still image recording) may not have been recorded.
  • Fixed the symptom that when using the Live-streaming function, images were distributed in an incorrect size with the video size set at 1280x720.

Check the firmware version

  1. Start PlayMemories Mobile installed on your smartphone or tablet and connect it to the camera.
    Regarding the installation method of PlayMemories Mobile and the connection method to the camera, refer to the instruction manual supplied with the camera or Connecting the Camera to Your Smartphone section in the HDR-AZ1's Help Guide.

  2. The version will be displayed on Settings → Camera information in PlayMemories Mobile.

  • Hard disk space: 200MB or more
  • RAM: 512MB or more
    * Please close all other application software before upgrading the firmware and prevent your computer from going into Sleep Mode.

    Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.
  • Power source for the camera
    Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-BY1.
    Note: The upgrade can be performed only when the remaining battery level is (three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery.

  • When performing the system software update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-BY1.
  • Do not remove the battery or USB cable during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
  • Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.

Install

Details

  1. Download the update file

    Click on the file Update_HDRAZ1V101.dmg to begin download. Please save the downloaded file onto the Desktop of your computer (recommended).
  2. Start Driver Loader (for MAC OS X ver. 10.10 only)

    Note: If you use OS X v.10.10, running DriverLoader, a preparatory application, is necessary before software updates. If you use OS X v.10.09 or lower, it is  not necessary to run DriverLoader.
    Note: The Driver Loader is provided separately and can be downloaded here.

    1. Double-click the downloaded file DL100_1411a.dmg. Do not connect the camera yet at this point.
    2. Double-click the DL100_1411a Folder which appears on the Desktop.
    3. Double-click the DriverLoader icon.
    4. To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes. Type the password for the administrative account.
    5. Continue the operation according to the procedure “Start up Firmware Updater.”

  3. Start Firmware Updater
    1. Double-click the downloaded file Update_HDRAZ1V101.dmg. Do not connect the camera yet at this point.
    2. Update_HDRAZ1V101 is expanded.
    3. Double-click the Firmware Updater icon.
    4. To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes. Type the password for the administrative account.



      Note: If the pop-up “FirmwareUpdater can’t be opened because the identity of the developer cannot be confirmed.” appears, refer to the following page.

      The warning message “FirmwareUpdater can’t be opened because the identity of the developer cannot be confirmed.”may appear when you double-click FirmwareUpdater.



      1. The menu appears when you click the icon while pressing the Control key. Select Open in the menu.

      2. Select Open when the warning message appears.

    5. Firmware Updater starts up.

  4. Connect the camera to the computer

    Note: Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
    1. Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable and turn on the power of the camera.
    2. After confirming the above, click Next on Firmware Updater.



      Note: From now on, do not turn off the camera until the firmware update is completed.
  5. Check if the update is required
    1. After confirming, click Next.  The current version and the version after the update appear on the lower left part of the screen.
    2. After confirming current version is Ver.1.00, click Next.The LCD screen of camera is blinking.



      Note: If Current version is Ver.1.01, the upgrade is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack, and then turn on the camera again.
  6. Reset the camera

    1. The screen below appears.

    2. Press REC (Movie/Photo) button to execute

      Note: Display panel  turns off  when REC (Movie/Photo) button  is pressed.  Please proceed to the next step.

    3. Click Next on Firmware Updater.

  7. Start the update

    1. After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the screen below appears.

    2. Click Run to start the update. The progress bar appears while updating (approximately 13 minutes).

      Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while updating.
  8. Complete the update

    When the update is completed, the camera will automatically restart. Make sure the camera is turned on and wait until the LCD screen appears again. Click Finish when the LCD screen appears and disconnect the USB cable.

  9. Check the system software version

    1. Start PlayMemories Mobile installed on your smartphone or tablet and connect it to the camera.
      Regarding the installation method of PlayMemories Mobile and the connection method to the camera, refer to the instruction manual supplied with the camera or Connecting the Camera to Your Smartphone section in the HDR-AZ1’s Help Guide.

    2. The version will be displayed on Settings → Camera information in PlayMemories Mobile.
