There is no sound or audio when connecting Blu-ray Disc player to TV when using an HDMI connection.

The following may be reasons for not hearing any sound or audio when using a HDMI connection to connect a Blu-ray Disc player to the TV.

    • The connection uses a HDMI-to-DVI adapter.
    • The connection uses a HDMI-to-DVI cable.
    • The TV may not be set to the appropriate HDMI video input.
    • You are trying to play a MPEG2 Program Stream (PS) file.
    • The HDMI cable may be faulty.

    IMPORTANT:

Follow the steps below to troubleshoot this issue:

    1. Ensure the picture displayed on TV is from the Blu-ray Disc player and that the TV is set to the appropriate HDMI video input .

      NOTES:

      • If you have a video cable connected, in addition to the HDMI cable, then the TV may be set to the wrong video input.
      • Set the speaker output to AV AMP when using a BRAVIA television.
    2. If using a HDMI-to-DVI adapter or cable, connect a different cable to support the audio signal.

IMPORTANT: Since DVI inputs only support video signals, another cable type must be used to get the audio to the TV. Depending on the audio input available on the TV, use either a digital (optical or coaxial) or red & white analog cable.

    3. Turn the Blu-ray Disc player off and on again.

NOTE: This normally resolves playback issues with MPEG2 PS files.

    4. If the issue is unresolved, try replacing the HDMI cable.
    5. If using an amplifier with HDMI cable to connect the Blu-ray Disc player to the TV, set Audio (HDMI) or Digital Audio Output on the Blu-ray Disc player to PCM to see if the amplifier produces any sound.
    6. If the surround sound of the Blu-ray home theater system that is connected to the TV does not work, verify if the there is no audio from the rear speakers  or if you can listen to the Dolby Digital technology 5.1 surround sound through your television.
    7. If the volume is very low, select the Audio DRC or BD Audio Mix of the Blu-ray Disc player to Off .
    8. Set the BD Audio Mix setting of the Blu-ray player to On if there is no sound once the movie started.

NOTE: The following are Audio settings can be selected on the Blu-ray player  menu:

      • Digital Audio Output
        • Auto: Normally select this. Outputs audio signals according to the status of
          the connected devices.
        • PCM: Outputs PCM signals from the DIGITAL OUT (COAXIAL)/HDMI OUT jack.
      • DSD Output Mode
        • On: Outputs DSD signals from the HDMI OUT jack when playing a Super Audio CD. When On is selected, no
signal is output from other jacks.
        • Off: Outputs PCM signals from the HDMI OUT jack when playing a Super
          Audio CD.
      • BD Audio MIX Setting
        • On: Outputs the audio obtained by mixing the interactive and secondary audio to the primary audio.
        • Off: Outputs the primary audio only.Select this to output HD audio signals to an AV amplifier (receiver).
      • DTS Neo:6
        • Cinema/Music: Outputs the simulated multi-channel sound from 2 channel sources via the HDMI OUT jack according to the capability of the connected device using DTS Neo:6
Cinema or DTS Neo:6 Music mode.
        • Off: Outputs the sound with its original number of channels via the HDMI OUT jack.
      • Audio DRC
        • Auto: Performs playback at the dynamic range specified by the disc (BD-ROM only). Other discs are played back at the On level.
        • On: Performs playback at a standard compression level.
        • Off: No compression works. A more dynamic sound is produced. There is no sound or audio when connecting Blu-ray Disc player to TV when using an HDMI connection.
      • Downmix
        • Surround: Outputs audio signals with surround effects. Select this when connecting an audio device that supportsDolby Surround (Pro Logic) or DTS Neo:6.
        • Stereo: Outputs audio signals without surround effects. Select this when connecting an audio device that does notsupport Dolby Surround (Pro Logic) or DTS Neo:6.
    9. If still unresolved, and if possible, try connecting to a different TV to determine whether or not the issue is with the Blu-ray Disc player.

The troubleshooting steps listed above should resolve your issue. If you have completed all of the steps and the issue is not resolved, service may be required.
