Preparation

Your firmware may already be up to date, especially if you have a new AV Receiver. If the version number is VER. 1.171 or higher, you do not need to update.

If you're not sure, it's easy to check which version of firmware you have:

  1. Turn on the AV Receiver
  2. Press AMP MENU on the remote control, then select [SYSTEM] using up/down arrow key on the remote control and press ENTER
  3. Using the up/down arrow key, select [VER. x.xxx]
    The firmware version number looks like this:
    "VER. 1.171" - if the version number is "VER. 1.171" or higher, you already have the most recent firmware version.

Download & Install

Update via USB Memory Device and your PC

Download the update to your computer, transfer it to a USB memory device and then transfer it to your AV Receiver.

We recommend the following operating systems:

  • Windows 10 / 8.1 / 7
  • Mac OS X

How to make sure the update goes smoothly

Updating is usually very simple. Here's how you can make sure it works first time:

  • Read the instructions carefully, or you may damage your AV Receiver
  • Do not turn the AV Receiver off or disconnect it from the power while it is updating
  • Don't press any buttons, except the ones mentioned in the instructions.

Download the update to your computer:

  1. Read and agree to the terms and conditions
  2. Download the file h790_upd_ver1171.zip to your computer and remember which directory you download it to
  3. Find the file on your computer, right-click on it and click . Check the size is 6.62 MB (6,950,992 bytes)

Save to the USB Memory:

  1. Extract the file to your computer:
    • For Mac OS X: Go to the location where the file was downloaded and double-click the h790_upd_ver1171.zip file. - The extracted folder is called "h790_upd"
    • For Windows 10 / 8.1 / 7:
      a. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and right-click the h790_upd_ver1171.zip file, then click "Extract All"
      b. In the "Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders" window, click "Extract"
      c. A new folder will be created called "h790_upd"
  2. Make sure that these files are included inside "h790_upd" folder:
    180790_A.BIN, 180790_D.BIN, 180790_E.BIN, 180790_F.BIN, 180790_M.BIN, 180790_O.BIN.
  3. Connect a compatible USB storage device to your computer.
    • For Mac OS X operating system:
      Drag and drop the "h790_upd" folder to the root folder of the USB device.
    • For Windows operating systems:
      1. Go to the directory where the folder was created and right-click the "h790_upd" folder
      2. In the menu that appears, click "Send to..."
      3. Click the drive that represents your USB device (e.g. Removable Disk E:)
      4. The update folder will be copied to your USB device

Note: The update will not be performed if the file is not copied to the root directory of the USB device or if the name of the file is modified.

Transfer the update to your AV Receiver

First, get the equipment ready, then transfer the update to your player.

Get the equipment ready:

  1. Turn on the AV Receiver
  2. Make sure there are no other USB devices connected to the AV Receiver. If there are, please unplug them from the AV Receiver

Transfer the update:

  1. Insert the USB memory device containing the update file into the POWER SUPPLY port, which is located on the rear panel of the AV Receiver.
  2. On the display panel, press the AMP MENU key on the remote control. Using the up/down arrow keys on the remote control, select [SYSTEM] and then press ENTER.
  3. Using the up/down arrow keys on the remote control, select [UPDATE] and then press ENTER.
  4. The message [START] is displayed on the display panel. Press ENTER using the remote control.
  5. During the update, you will see the message [UPDT xxx] (x = update progress) on the display window. The update can take up to 60 minutes.
    Note: Do not turn the AV Receiver off or disconnect it from the power while it is updating.
  6. The message [COMPLETE] will display in the display window when the firmware update has completed.
    The AV Receiver will automatically turn off after the update is complete.
  7. Take the USB memory device out of the AV receiver and turn it on.
  8. Check the firmware version. If the version number is VER. 1.171, the firmware update was successful.

Troubleshooting

What to do if you have problems updating your AV receiver firmware using your PC and a disc.

  • "FILE ERR" is displayed on the display panel of the receiver.
    • Turn off the system and remove the USB memory device
    • Check that the "h790_upd" folder has been saved on your USB memory device, including all six files.
    • Once you have checked the USB memory device, try the update procedure again
  • The main power went off while the update was in progress (e.g. due to a power cut).
    • Make sure the USB device containing the firmware is plugged in when the power is off
    • When the power comes back on, the AV receiver will automatically resume the update process
  • "UPDT ERR” is displayed on the display panel of the receiver.
    • Turn off the system and make sure the USB memory device which contains the firmware is plugged in to the receiver
    • When the power comes back on, the AV receiver will automatically resume the update process
  • The h790_upd_ver1171.zip update file I downloaded from the update website cannot be extracted.
    Did you download the file successfully? Try to delete the file and download it again.
  • The update has been going for over 60 minutes and hasn't finished.
    1. Disconnect the AC power cord from the mains, then reconnect it after several minutes
    2. Turn on the AV Receiver
    3. Try the update procedure again
