Preparation

Check the firmware version

If the firmware of your device is version SYS 6.42 or above, you do not need to perform the update. If you're not sure, it's easy to check which version of firmware you have:

1. Press the POWER button to turn on the Audio System.
2. Press OPTIONS.
3. Press the ↑ or ↓ button to select SYSTEM, then press the button.
4. Press the ↑ or ↓ button to select VERSION, then press the button.

Important Notice

• After updating, the firmware cannot be reverted to an earlier version.
• Read the instructions carefully or you could end up damaging your Audio System.
• Don't turn off the Audio System or disconnect it from power while it's updating.
• Don't press any buttons, except the ones mentioned in the instructions.
• Don't use the Audio System or the remote controller during the download and update process.
• Don't disconnect the power cord before the update is complete, or you could end up causing a system failure.

There are 2 easy ways to update the firmware on your Audio System:

Download & Install

Updating your Audio System over the Internet

We recommend this method as it's the simplest way to update. First set up the equipment, then download the update over the internet to your Audio System.

What you need:

• An active internet connection (using an Ethernet cable)

Set up the equipment:

Connect the Audio System to your internet source using an Ethernet cable.

Step 1: Install the update

1. Press the button to turn on the Audio System and wait a few minutes until the UPDATE icon is displayed on the display.
2. Press OPTIONS.
3. Press the ↑ or ↓ button to select SYSTEM, then press the button.
4. Press the ↑ or ↓ button to select UPDATE, then press the button.
5. Press the ↑ or ↓ button to select VIA NW, then press the button.
6. Press the button to select EXEC.
7. Press the ↑ or ↓ button to select YES, then press the button.
8. Please wait until the download, file copy, and update procedures are completed.
   • Download: The download time will depend on your internet connection
   • File Copy: This step will be followed by an automatic system reboot
   • Software Update: Updating normally takes 10 minutes. this step will also be followed by an automatic system reboot
   • Demonstration mode will then start
9. Press the button again to turn on the Audio System.

Step 2: Confirm that the update was successful

Check the firmware version. If the version number is SYS 6.42, the firmware update was successful.

Troubleshooting

If Download Error/Push POWER is displayed during the update, the software update failed.

1. Press the button to turn the Audio System off.
2. Press the button again, the Audio System will then turn on.
3. Wait about 3 minutes (or until the network connection is complete), then check the display on the Audio System.

• The UPDATE icon is lit.
  • The Software update is NOT completed, but the Audio System is in normal condition.
  • Try the network update once again using the previous steps.
    Note: If the update fails again, instead of the network update, please try the software update using the USB flash device procedure.

Update via USB Memory Device and your PC

We recommend you use the Internet to update if you can. If not, you can use this method instead. You'll download the update to your computer, transfer it to a USB memory device, then transfer it to your Audio System.

Preparations for Firmware Update

Before downloading the firmware, please ensure that your computer is running one of the following operating systems, and prepare your USB flash drive.

Operating Systems

• Windows 10
• Windows 8.1
• Macintosh OS X version 10.6 or later version

Notes:

• If you are using Windows 10 or 8.1, please use it in desktop mode.
• Operation is not guaranteed for all computers installed with a compatible OS.

Recording Media requirements

USB flash drive capacity: more than 256 MB

Step 1: Install the update

Download the update to your computer:

1. Make sure no program other than your internet browser is running.
2. Read and agree to the terms and conditions on this page.
3. Download the file to your computer (note the download location for your reference).
   • MHC-V90DW: MHC17001.UPG
     Note: 198 MB (208 027 840 bytes)

Transfer the update files to the USB storage device:

1. Insert your USB flash drive into a USB slot on your computer.
2. Format your USB flash drive.
3. Copy the update file to the ROOT directory of the USB flash drive.

Note: The update will not be performed if the file is not copied to the root directory of the USB device or if the name of the file is modified.

Transfer the update to your player

Plug the USB flash drive into the USB slot of the Audio System.

Transfer the update:

1. Start the Audio System by pressing the button.
2. Press OPTIONS.
3. Press the ↑ or ↓ button to select SYSTEM, then press the button.
4. Press the ↑ or ↓ button to select UPDATE, then press the button.
5. Press the ↑ or ↓ button to select VIA USB, then press the button.
6. Press the button to select EXEC.
7. Press the ↑ or ↓ button to select YES, then press the button.
   Note: UPDATING on the display will start blinking during the update.
8. Please wait until the file copy and update procedures are completed.
   • File Copy: this step will be followed by an automatic system reboot
   • Software Update: Updating normally takes 10 minutes. this step will also be followed by an automatic system reboot
   • Demonstration mode will then start

Step 2: Confirm that the update was successful

Check the firmware version. If the version number is SYS 6.42, the firmware update was successful.

Troubleshooting

If File Error or No File or Read Error/Push POWER is displayed during the update, the software update failed.

1. Confirm your update file is correct and placed in the root directory of your USB flash drive, and try the previous steps again.
2. If you still cannot perform the update, please try again using another USB storage device.
