Error: Connect a device or media to the computer. is displayed on the import screen and the camera is not recognized when attempting to import images with PlayMemories Home.

    This article pertains to models that are compatible with PlayMemories Home or PMB. For details, refer to the instruction manual and other documentation for your device.

    Follow the procedures below and see if they fix the problem:

    1. Open Computer in Windows, and see if the camera is recognized.

      When trying to open an SDXC memory card on your computer and a message prompting you to format the memory card, your computer may not be compatible with SDXC memory cards.

    2. Run PlayMemories Home Settings Initialization Tool, and see if the camera is recognized.

      A problem may have occurred with PlayMemories Home. Run PlayMemories Home Settings Initialization Tool to return the program to the default settings that was in effect immediately after installation, and see if the camera is recognized.

      How to run PlayMemories Home Settings Initialization Tool

      NOTE:
      • Even if you run PlayMemories Home Settings Initialization Tool, image data (videos or photos) stored on your computer will not be deleted.
      • Running PlayMemories Home Settings Initialization Tool will return the program to the default settings, so [Add Folders] settings will also return to default.
        Register again if a folder other than My Pictures is registered from Add Folders as the folder for viewing images.

    3. Change the camera's USB Connect Setting and USB LUN Setting, and see if the camera is recognized.

      Change the camera's USB Connect Setting and USB LUN Setting to the following settings.
      • USB Connect Setting: Mass Storage
      • USB LUN Setting/LUN Setting: Single

        NOTE: Some products may not have a USB Connect Setting,  USB LUN Setting, and LUN Setting.

       

    4. Change the camera's USB port, and see if the camera is recognized.

      Do the following.
      Use the USB connecting cable supplied with the product to connect to the computer.

      NOTE:

      • If you are using a computer with USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports, connect to a USB 2.0 port.
        USB 3.0 ports are blue as shown in the diagram below.
        For details, refer the instruction manual for your computer or contact the computer manufacturer.

      • Do not use a USB hub. Connect the camera directly to the USB port of your computer.
      • In that case, try to connect to a USB port on the back side of the computer.


    5. Uninstall PlayMemories Home and install it again.

      PlayMemories Home may not operate properly.
      Uninstall PlayMemories Home, then install the latest version of PlayMemories Home.
