Preparation

Your firmware may already be up to date, especially if you have a new Blu-ray player model. If the version number is M36.R.0345 or higher, you do not need to update.

If you're not sure, it's easy to check which version of firmware you have:

  1. Turn on your TV and check it's tuned to the input your Blu-ray player is connected to, so if the player is connected to the HDMI2 port, choose HDMI2 as the input.
  2. Turn on the Blu-ray player. If it starts to play a disc, press STOP and wait until you see the Home Screen menu.
  3. On the Home Screen, select SetupSystem Settings then select ENTER using the arrow keys on the remote control.
  4. Select System Information and select ENTER.
  5. On the TV screen, if the version number is M36.R.0345 or higher, you already have the most recent firmware version.

Updating your Blu-ray player over the Internet

We recommend this method as it's the simplest way to update. It usually takes about 15-30 minutes. First set up the equipment, then download the update over the internet to your Blu-ray player.

What you need:

  • An active internet connection (using Ethernet cable or wireless router)
  • A compatible TV

How to make sure the update goes smoothly

Updating is usually very simple. Here's how you can make sure it goes right the first time:

  • Read the instructions carefully or you could end up damaging your Blu-ray player.
  • Don't turn the Blu-ray player off or disconnect it from the power while it's updating.
  • Don't press any buttons, except the ones mentioned in the instructions.

Set up the equipment:

  1. Turn on your TV and check it's tuned to the input your Blu-ray player is connected to. (So if the player is connected to the HDMI 2 port, choose HDMI 2 as the input.)
  2. Connect the Blu-ray player to your internet source using an Ethernet cable or wireless connection via a router.
  3. Turn on the Blu-ray player. (If there is a disc in the player, take it out.)

Get the update:

  1. At the Home Screen, select SetupSoftware Update using the arrow keys on the remote control and then select Update via Internet.
  2. Software Update confirmation will be displayed on the TV. Select OK using the remote control, and then press ENTER.
  3. The message Update to a new software version and the latest software version is displayed on the TV.
  4. Select Start, and then press ENTER.
  5. The update process starts and you see the update screen on the TV.

  7. The player will reboot itself and the update will continue. Don't use or turn on the player during this step.
  8. You will see again the progress bar x % and the download capacity on the TV. The x changes to 0 and goes up to 100 during the update process.
  9. To complete the update, the player will automatically turn off and restart. Don't use or turn off the player until the update is complete.
  10. Check the firmware version. If the version number is M36.R.0345, the firmware update was successful.

Troubleshooting

What to do if you have problems updating your Blu-ray player firmware using the internet.

  • If the message Connection status cannot be confirmed or This device is not connected to network shows on the TV, the problem might be with the network connection:
    1. For wired connection: check the LAN cable is connected between the player and the internet source.
    2. For wireless connection: check the wireless router is turned on and connected to the internet source.
    3. In the network settings, check you have confirmed whether or not your Blu-ray player has its own IP address. (If you use a proxy server, type the IP address of the proxy you use, instead of the proxy hostname, into the Proxy Server field.)
    4. Confirm both Physical Connection and Internet Access are OK in Network Settings Network Connection Status.
    5. Try the update again.
  • If the power went off while the update was in progress, turn the player on and try the update again.
  • If the update has been going for over 30 minutes and hasn't finished:
    1. Disconnect the AC power cord from the mains, then reconnect it after several minutes.
    2. Turn on the Blu-ray Disc player.
    3. Try the update procedure again.
    4. You can also directly cancel the network procedure and proceed directly and perform the update via USB memory.
  • If while updating the message Update failed appears:
    • Ensure there is no problem with your network connection to the Internet.
    • At the Update failed screen, select OK to try the update procedure again, or Cancel to stop the process.
    • If the symptom persists download the firmware file and perform the update via USB memory.
    • You can also directly cancel the network procedure and proceed directly and perform the update via USB memory.
  • If after several attempts, the firmware update still does not work, download the firmware file and perform the update via USB memory.
