Are Sony DVD players and recorders compatible with different region codes discs?
Sony DVD players and recorders sold, depending on your country supports either NTSC or PAL / SECAM playback and recording. The units are not able to play or record discs which was from a non-supported video format. They are also not compatible with any other region codes otherwise stated in the instruction manual. There is no way to override the region code or make the player support a different video format.
NOTES:
- Sony DVD players also will play discs that are labeled Region 0 or All as these discs are coded to play in all regions. Many discs created with home-video capture software are coded as Region 0 and should play in your DVD player.
- The video format standard and region code of a disc are usually printed on either the disc itself or the packaging provided with the case.
