How to set up a connection to a wireless network or access point.

    Follow these steps to connect to a wireless network or access point.

    IMPORTANT:

    • Before starting this procedure, make sure that the external Wireless switch is turn to the On position.
    • Not all computers have an external Wireless switch. To see if your computer has an external Wireless switch, check the computer specifications.
    • If you will be attempting to connect to a Network that is password protected, make sure you have obtained the appropriate passkey from the Network Administrator before attempting to connect.
    1. Click Start, and from the Start menu, click Settings.

      NOTE: The Windows Logo + I key combination will also take you to the Settings screen.

    2. In the Settings screen, click the Network & Internet icon.

      NOTE: The background colour of the Settings varies on what was set on the computer.

    3. In the Network & Internet screen, click to change the Wi-Fi slider to On.

    4. Below the Wi-Fi slider, click to select the wireless network you wish to use, click to select Connect automatically (if desired), and then click the Connect button.

      IMPORTANT:

      • If prompted, you will need to enter the appropriate passkey to access the selected Network. If you do not know the appropriate passkey you will not be able to connect to the Network.
      • Click Advanced options to view the wireless device manufacturer and driver information.

      You can also click Manage Wi-Fi settings to access the Wi-Fi Sense feature. The Wi-Fi Sense feature allows you to connect to suggested Wi-Fi hotspots and networks that your contact share with you.

    IMPORTANT:

    • By using the Wi-Fi Sense feature you agree that it can use your location.
    • Not all Wi-Fi hotspots or networks are secure. Be sure to take all necessary security precautions before connecting to any network or hotspot.
