    Sony is offering a system software update for Digital 4K Video Camera Recorder FDR-AX40 and FDR-AXP55.

    Improvements:
    Improve image stability during pan/tilt operation when using with a tripod.

    Benefits provided from previous updates includes:

    1. Improve auto focus performance in specific conditions.

    How to check the System Software version

    1. Select Menu > Setup > General Settings > Version.
    2. The System Software version is displayed. If the Version menu in General Settings of your camcorder is version 1.02, upgrade is not required.

      Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.

    Important Notes:

    • Please close all other application software before upgrading the system software.
    • When performing the system software update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FV70 or the AC adaptor.
    • Do not remove the battery or AC adaptor during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
    • Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
    1. Download the update file
      Download the file to your computer. Please save the downloaded file onto the Desktop of your computer (recommended).

      For Windows8.1 and Windows10 users:
      Under the initial settings of Internet Explorer, the update file will be saved in the Downloads folder. Click the Desktop tile from the Start screen and find the downloaded file in the Downloads folder by using Explorer.

    2. Start the System Software Updater
      Close all currently running programs on your computer, and double click Update_FDR-AXP55_AX55_AX40V102.exe to start up System Software Updater.

    3. Check the USB connection mode
      1. Turn on the camera.
      2. According to the System Software Updater instructions, select Menu > Setup > Connection > USB Connect Setting on the camera, and check if Mass Storage is selected. If a mode other than Mass Storage is selected, select Mass Storage.

    4. Connect the camera to the computer
      Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand, then connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
      USB Mode appears on the LCD monitor of the camera.
    5. Check if the update is required
      1. After confirming the LCD monitor of the camera, click Next. The current version and the version after the upgrade appear on the below screen.

        Note: If the below screen appears, the upgrade is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, re-insert the battery pack or connect the AC adaptor, and then turn on the camera again.

      2. After confirming Current version is Ver. 1.01 or earlier, click Next.

    6. The camera automatically reset
      The following screen appears.
    7. Start the update
      After automatically resetting, the below screen appears and the update starts.The progress bar appears while updating (approximately 20 minutes).


      Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while upgrading.

    8. Complete the update
      When the update is completed, the camera will automatically restart. Make sure the camera is turned on and wait until the LCD screen appears again. Click Finish when the LCD screen appears and disconnect the USB cable.

    9. Check the System Software version
      Follow the instruction to confirm the System Software version is Ver. 1.02.
      Select Menu > Setup > General Settings > Version on the camera.The system software version is displayed.
