About this download
Firmware refers to the operational software that is embedded in the Walkman. This utility will update the firmware of the Walkman to Version 1.01.
Improvement:
- Time skip for about a few seconds may occur in playing back the recorded sound files or FM radio programs.
- The units may not work correctly when using with the Sony car audios connected via USB.
Target Firmware: The firmware version of the following products should be less than or equal to 1.00.
Verifying the Model and Firmware Version:
- Press and hold the BACK/HOME button until the Home menu appears.
- Press / button to select (Settings), and then press button to confirm.
- Press / button to select Information, and then press button to confirm.
- Confirm [1:] the Model and [3:] the Firmware version.

Note: The 64 bit version operating system is not supported.

For Windows Vista/Windows XP users
- Log on with the Administrator user name or an acount with Administrator permissions when downloading the program and updating the firmware.
If you are Windows Vista user, “Windows needs your permission to continue” message appears in the User Account Control dialog box. Click Continue to proceed, and follow the announcements.

Details
Download procedure
- Set up the folder for storing the downloaded file on the hard disk.
Assuming the folder is named FWUP and is created in C drive. - Save the downloaded file NWZ-B130_V1_01.exe (3,159 KB) in this folder.
- When the download is completed, use Windows Explorer to browse to the folder where the file is saved. Click View and click Details.
* If the file size is the same as the download size 3,159 KB, the download is successful. If the size is different, please delete the file and download it again.
Update procedure
Note:
- Please transfer all tracks and data from the unit to the computer before carrying out the firmware upgrade.
- We do not guarantee the tracks and data stored in the unit are not damaged or deleted during the upgrade process.
Before Updating
- Set up a folder on the computer hard drive. Copy all the music tracks and data from the unit into the folder.
- Quit all software running on Windows and complete any other works besides the update.
* If other Digital Music Players are connected to the computer, disconnect all of them from the computer.
- Connect the unit to the computer.
* If using a notebook PC, keep an AC adapter connected to the PC to ensure the PC battery stays charged.
- Windows Vista users: Click Start button on the task bar of the computer, and click on Run... followed by All Programs -> Accessory.
Windows XP: Click Start button on the task bar of the computer and click on Run...
The Run... dialog box will open.
- Input C:\FWUP\NWZ-B130_V1_01.exe in the Open text box and click OK.
The program will be started.
- Confirm the Current Firmware Version/Upgrade Firmware Version.
- During displaying "Ready", Click Start.
* Please do not disconnect the unit from the computer during updating.
- When the message of completing updating is displayed, click Close.
Errors during update
* In Step 5 above, if the current firmware version is showed as "0.00", close all the software installed in the computer (including the resident programs) and try updating the firmware again.
Firmware Update Verification
- Please confirm the firmware version when the update program is completed. The update installation is successful when firmware version 1.01 is shown on the screen.

- Press / button to select (Settings), and then press button to confirm.
- Press / button to select Information, and then press button to confirm.
- Confirm the Firmware version is displaying [3:Ver 1.01].
Note: Please consult the local authorized Sony service facility for assistance if there are problems with the Firmware Update.
