How to test the speed of your Internet connection.
You must have a working Internet connection connected to a computer and use a website to test your connection speed. Your speed may change over time, so the results of your test may not be the same from day to day. For questions about your connection speed, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
The following web sites can be used to test your Internet speed:

The following links are Flash based or Sun Java software based and are suitable tests that are representative speeds of Internet searches or browsing:

- https://www.pingtest.net [Requires Java to be installed]
- https://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/ [Offers a variety of tests that may be more suitable for advanced computer users.]
The following links are Browser based and are suitable for testing that are representative speeds of streaming videos with larger file sizes:

NOTE: This speed test tool is powered by Netflix, which measures only the download speed.
NOTE: When performing one of these tests, be aware that faster Internet speeds of wired Ethernet connections have compared to wireless, which can be up to 30-50% slower even with excellent signal strength. The disparity between wired and Wi-Fi performance is due to several reasons including additional network protocol overhead, radio interference, physical obstructions between devices, and decreasing signal strength with distance. In addition, as more devices communicate on the network simultaneously, its performance will also decrease. Where possible, always use a wired connection for best performance.
