    Preparation

    Check the firmware version

    Your firmware may already be up to date. If the version number is M21.R.0182 or higher, you do not need to update.

    If you're not sure, it's easy to check which version of firmware you have:

    1. Turn on your TV and check it's tuned to the input your BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W is connected to, so if the BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W is connected to the HDMI 2 port, choose HDMI 2 as the input
    2. Turn on the BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W
    3. Press the "FUNCTION" button repeatedly until "BD/DVD" function appears in the front panel display
    4. If it starts to play a disc, press HOME and wait until you see the XrossMediaBar (XMB) menu screen
    5. At the XrossMediaBar, highlight Setup > System Settings then select ENTER using the arrow keys on the remote control
    6. Highlight System Information on the display and press the ENTER key
    7. On the TV screen, the firmware version number looks like this:
      Software Version M21.R.0182 — if the version number is M21.R.0182 or higher, you already have the most recent firmware version.

    Important notice

    • Read the instructions carefully or you could end up damaging your BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W
    • Do not turn the BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W off—or disconnect it from the power—while it's updating
    • Do not press any buttons, except those mentioned in the instructions
    • Do not pull out the power cord or network (LAN) cable during download or update of the software.
    • Do not pull out the power cord until update is completed. This will cause a system failure.

    Download & Install

    Updating your BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W over the Internet

    We recommend this method as it's the simplest way to update. It usually takes about 15–30 minutes. First set up the equipment, then download the update over the Internet to your BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W.

    What you need:

    • An Ethernet cable to connect your BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W to the Internet
    • Make sure your BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W is connected to:
      • an active Internet connection (using Ethernet cable or wireless router)
      • a compatible TV

    Set up the equipment:

    1. Turn on your TV and check it's tuned to the input your BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W is connected to.(So if the BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W is connected to the HDMI 2 port, choose HDMI 2 as the input)
    2. Connect the BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W to your Internet source using an Ethernet cable.
    3. Turn on the BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W — if there is a disc in the player, take it out.
    4. Press the "FUNCTION" button repeatedly until "BD/DVD" function appears in the front panel display. - You can only perform the upgrade when the "BD/DVD" function is selected
    5. At the XrossMediaBar, select [Setup] > [System Settings] using the arrow keys on the remote control and then select ENTER.
    6. Select "Quick Start Mode" using the remote control — make sure that the "Quick Start Mode" is set to "Off", otherwise, the firmware upgrade may not succeed.

    Step 1: Install the update

    1. At the XrossMediaBar, use the arrow keys on the remote control to select [Setup] > [Software Update] > [Update via Internet] and then press [Enter].
    2. The message [A new software version has been found on the network. Do you want to update the software?] is displayed on the TV screen. Select [OK] using the remote control, then press [ENTER].
    3. The message [Update to a new software version. Never turn off power while performing update. Current version M21.R.xxxx New version M21.R.0182 is displayed on the TV screen. Select [Start] using the remote control, and press [ENTER].
    4. The update starts.
    5. During the update, you will see the message ["UPDATE"] on the front panel display.
    6. The firmware upgrade is completed when the message [DONE] displays on the front panel display.
      Note: Do not disconnect the power cord during the update process.
    7. Turn the system back on.

    Step 2: Confirm that the update was successful

    1. Check the firmware version. If the version number is M21.R.0182, the firmware update was successful.

    Troubleshooting

    What to do if you have problems updating your BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W firmware via the Internet.

    • The message [Update failed. ...] is displayed on the TV screen.
      1. The router and all devices connected between the BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W and the router are switched on.
      2. The correct type of cable (straight or crossover) between the BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W and the router is used.
      3. All the cables between the BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W and the router are correctly connected.
      4. Try the update procedure again

      If you cannot perform the Software Update, try the Update via USB Memory procedure.

    • After the Update via Internet process has started, the message [Download capacity: xxxxxxKB/xxxxxKB and xx% is display in TV screen] is displayed but the progress bar on the display has not changed.
      Depending on the network connection, the Update via the Internet process can take a long time (up to 60 minutes). That is why the message [Download capacity: xxxxxxKB/xxxxxKB and xx% is display in TV screen] is displayed and the progress bar on the display will not change for a long time.
    • When running Update via the Internet, the TV displays the message: [Connection status cannot be confirmed. Cannot communicate with the server. Please try again later.] and you cannot perform the firmware upgrade.
      • Check the LAN cable is connected.
      • Check you have confirmed whether or not your BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W has its own IP address in the network settings.(If you use a proxy server, type the IP address of the proxy you use—instead of the proxy host name—into the Proxy Server field.)
      • Try the update again.
    • The power went off while the update was in progress.
      Turn the BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W on and try the update again.
    • The update has been going for over 60 minutes and has not yet finished.
      If the BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W is connected via wireless to the network, please try to connect with a cable to the network and try the procedure again.
      If the problem continues, the network transmission speed may be low. In that case please try to update your system following the Update via USB Memory procedure.
    • The message [This device is not connected to network. Perform network diagnostics in the connection server setting] is displayed on TV screen.
      Please check whether the LAN cable is connected to BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W.
    • The message [Already Updated] is displayed on TV screen.
      The firmware version currently installed on the BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W is the latest version

    Update via USB Memory Device and your PC

    We recommend using the Internet to update where possible. If not, you can use this method instead. You'll download the update to your computer, transfer it to a USB memory device, then transfer it to your BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W.

    Preparations for Firmware Update

    Before downloading the firmware, please ensure that your computer is running one of the following operating systems and prepare USB flash drive.

    Operating systems

    • Windows® 10
    • Windows® 8.1
    • Windows® 7 SP1

    Step 1: Install the update

    1. Read and agree to the terms and conditions.
    2. Download the file UPDATA_M21R0182.zip to your computer — remembering which directory you download it to.
    3. Find the file on your computer, right-click on it and click Properties. Check the size is 105 MB (110,653,212 bytes).
    Transfer the update files to the USB storage device:
    1. Extract the update file from the UPDATA_M21R0182.zip file.
      1. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and right-click the UPDATA_M21R0182.zip file, then click "Extract All".
        Note: For Windows® 8.1 and Windows® 10, the default settings for Internet Explorer® will save the file in the Downloads folder.To locate the Downloads folder, click the "Desktop" tile from the Start screen and then locate the downloaded file using Windows Explorer.
      2. In the "Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders" window, click "Extract".
      3. A new folder will be created called "UPDATE".
        Note: Four files will be extracted: MSB21-FW.BIN and MSB21-FW.ID, MSB21-FW_MB.BIN, and MSB21FW_MB.ID.
    2. Connect a compatible USB storage device to your computer.
    3. Transfer the UPDATE folder to the USB storage device:
        Go to the directory where the folder was created, then right-click the UPDATE folder.
      1. From the menu, click Send To..., then click the drive that represents your USB device (e.g. Removable Disk E:).
      2. The update folder will be copied onto your USB device.
      Note: The update will not be performed if the folder is not copied to the root directory of the USB device or if the name of the folder is modified.
    4. After copying the UPDATE folder, remove the USB device from your computer.
    Transfer the update to your player

    First get the equipment ready, then transfer the update to your BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W.

    Get the equipment ready:
    1. Turn on your TV and check it is tuned to the input your BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W is connected to. (So if the BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W is connected to the HDMI 2 port, choose HDMI 2 as the input)
    2. Turn on the BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W
    3. Press the "FUNCTION" button repeatedly until "BD/DVD" function appears in the front panel display.
    4. If it starts to play a disc, press HOME and wait until you see the XrossMediaBar (XMB) menu screen.
    5. Select "Quick Start Mode" using the remote control — make sure that the "Quick Start Mode" is set to "Off", otherwise, the firmware upgrade may not succeed.
    6. Insert the USB that contains the four files.
    Transfer the update:
    1. At the XrossMediaBar, select [Setup] > [Software Update] with the arrow keys on the remote control and then press the ENTER key
    2. Use arrow keys to select "Update via USB Memory", then press the ENTER key
    3. The message ["Update files found in the USB memory. Do you want to update software? Current version M21.R.xxxx New version M21.R.0182.Do not turn off the power or remove the USB memory during the update."] is displayed on the TV screen. Select OK using the remote control, then press ENTER
    4. The message [Update Caution] is displayed on the TV screen. Select OK using the remote control, then press ENTER
    5. The update starts
    6. During the update, you will see the message "UPDATE" on the front panel display.
    7. The firmware update is completed when the message [DONE] displays on the front panel display.
      Note: Do not disconnect the power cord during the update process.
    8. Turn the system back on.

    Step 2: Confirm that the update was successful

    1. Check the firmware version. If the version number is M21.R.0182, the firmware update was successful

    Troubleshooting

    What to do if you have problems updating your BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W firmware using your PC and USB Memory.

    • "UPDT" and "ERROR" are displayed alternately on the front panel display.
      1. Turn off the system and disconnect the AC power cord.
      2. Turn on the power of the BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W.
      3. Take the disc out.
      4. Try the Update via USB Memory procedure.

    • The power went off while the update was in progress
      Power on the BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W and follow the Update via USB Memory Procedure again.

    • The UPDATA_M21R0182.zip update file I downloaded from the update website cannot be extracted.
      Did you download the file successfully? Try to delete the file and download it again.

    • The update has been going for over 30 minutes and hasn't finished
      1. Disconnect the AC power cord from the mains, then reconnect it after several minutes
      2. Turn on the BDV-N9200WL/N9200W/N7200W/N5200W
      3. Try the update procedure again
