I cannot control the set-top box (TV box or cable/satellite box) using the remote control.

    IMPORTANT:

    Before you start

    • You can perform TV box setup or Cable/Satellite box setup to control the set-top box with the TV remote control. However, you cannot use the Power button on the remote control to turn the set-top box on or off.
Instead, use the TV, 123 or MENU button:
      1. Select the set-top box (STB) using the INPUT button on the remote control.
      2. Press the TV, 123, or MENU button on the remote control, and then select Power.
Note: If Power is not shown in the input selection screen, select Edit and add Power.
    • When using the TV remote control, point it at the cable/satellite box.
    • Depending on the external devices, some remote control buttons may not respond. There are also some set-top boxes that do not respond to TV box setup or Cable/Satellite box setup feature.
    • If you press and hold a button on the remote control, the operation may not work. Feature of TV box setup or Cable/Satellite box setup do not support long press or holding down buttons, such as the CH+/- buttons. Instead, press these buttons repeatedly.
    • The REC(STB) key on the screen will not work for set-top boxes that do not have the recording function.

    Check the following:

    1. Make sure the connected set-top box supports the TV box setup or Cable/Satellite box setup function.
Note: Contact the device manufacturer to confirm its compatibility with the TV box setup or Cable/Satellite box setup function.
    2. Make sure the TV and set-top box are turned on.
    3. Set up TV box setup or cable/satellite box setup.
    4. Connect the TV remote control to the TV via Bluetooth.
      1. Open the Settings screen.
      2. The next steps will depend on your TV menu options:
        • Select Remotes & Accessories → Set Bluetooth to ON. (Android™ 10 or later)
        • Select Remotes & AccessoriesBluetooth settings → Set Bluetooth to ON. (Android 9)
        • Select Bluetooth settings → Set Bluetooth to ON. (Android 8.0)

For Google TV models: Check Remotes & Accessories → Remote control. The TV remote control is already connected to the TV via Bluetooth if both of the following items appear in the Remote control settings:
Under the Connect via Bluetooth section: connected remote control: SONY TV VRC 001
Under the Software update section: Current software version: XX.XX.XX.XXX

For Android TV models: If both SONY TV VRC 001 and Connected are displayed in Bluetooth settings, the TV remote control is already connected to the TV via Bluetooth.

    5. Try the steps below in the following situations:

For Google TV models: If what appears under the Connect via Bluetooth and Software update items is not as shown in Step 4, the TV remote control will not pair or connect to the TV. Please select Connect via Bluetooth and follow the instructions.

For Android TV models: If SONY TV VRC 001 is displayed, but Connected is not, and the TV remote control is paired but not connected to the TV, then check the following:

      1. Check the Bluetooth connection again.
      2. Reset the TV.
      3. Remove the batteries from the remote control and reinsert them.
    6. If the remote control is disconnected, updating the software can improve its stability. Check whether there is a software update available for the remote control.

      1. Open the Settings screen.
      2. The next steps will depend on your TV menu options:
        • Select Remotes & AccessoriesRemote controlSoftware update. (Android 9 or later)
        • Select Remote controlSoftware update. (Android 8.0)

During the update, keep the remote control near the TV and do not remove the batteries.
If the update still fails, please replace the remote control batteries with new ones and try the update again.
        Only RMF-TX920:
During the update, keep the remote control near the TV and do not plug a USB cable into the remote.
If the update still fails, please charge the remote control batteries first, and then try the update again.
      • If the message Please use a Voice Remote Control to select this item appears on the screen, the Bluetooth feature may have frozen temporarily.
        Except RMF-TX920:
Remove and reinsert the batteries or reset the TV, and then try updating the remote control software again.
        Only RMF-TX920:
